School Readiness
The School Readiness sessions are designed to help your child build confidence in their ability and to take risks with their learning. The sessions have a literacy focus, helping the children to develop their fine motor skills and gain an understanding of letters, sounds and words so that they are confident when starting Prep. I also incorporate numeracy games and activities to develop listening skills and develop the ability to follow multiple instructions like in a Prep classroom environment.
The lessons are full of fun and movement to keep the children motivated and entertained. The class sizes are small, so I can work one-on-one with your child throughout the class to support their needs and abilities.
The Individualized School Readiness Assessment
This is a comprehensive hands-on assessment to help parents make an informed decision about their child’s readiness for Prep.
The assessment covers fine motor skills, language development (receptive and expressive), cognitive development (literacy and numeracy), adaptive behaviours (daily living) and social and emotional development.
This extensive individual assessment will help parents make an informed decision about whether their child is ready to take the next step into formal schooling or if having another year of kindergarten is the best thing for their development.
This assessment can give you more information about your child if you are concerned about your child’s development and their ability to cope and adapt to formal school environment.
Big Little Learners
The Big Little Learner session is for Prep children who may need extra help boosting their confidence and knowledge with literacy skills as well as consolidation of prior knowledge. During these sessions, the children will be engaged in hands-on learning to help them learn letters and sounds, early writing and reading skills. These small group sessions will boost your child’s confidence in the Prep classroom and be a guide to those children interested in extending these skills.
Busy Little Hands
During these sessions at Ascot, the children will be engaged in activities that help promote both fine and gross motor skills. Fine motor activities are designed to get the children moving their whole body. The activities will strengthen the muscles in the hands and fingers, develop coordination, and help to better manipulate small objects such as pencils and scissors. We'll also be developing gross motor skills via a variety of play-based activities because handwriting is a full-body skill. Overall, the activities will be full of fun, colour and movement.
